The Challenges

Our stakeholder approached our team with two primary objectives: to create a simple, fast and easy way to send and receive cryptocurrency using blockchain; and to expand their brand and service accordingly.

Who are our audiences/users?

  1. The primary audience consists of sellers or buyers who own PAI Coins

  2. The secondary audience consists of other cryptocurrency owners and future PAI Coin owners

Goal

How might we help users to send/receive/store digital assets?

How might we help users better understand the value of PAI Coin and build more interactions with cryptocurrency community?

Phase 1

Our focus was on making our MVP delightful and usable. Using a public open source platform, we focused on the core functionality of the wallet, while also considering the overall flows, brand and UI design. We built the MVP in a way such that the user could build trust in the product.

The overall concept and visual ideas of the product were based on the branding of the company which owns the PAI cryptocurrency. The color, interface and visual elements of the product represent a sense of trust, security and reliability.

Creating unified visual language, components, and patterns

I created and shared a set of visual languages and UI style guides to give the developer and stakeholders a clear idea of how to put the components together.

The system provides a clear hierarchy that incorporates concise, cohesive, and consistent design patterns. We did not focus exclusively on visual aesthetics, but also created a seamless user flow with a consistent design throughout the app.

Phase 2

The main focus of phase 2 was to resolve the UI and usability issues found from user feedback in phase 1 and to perform user tests for new features. We also focused on launching news feeds, which were effective and useful in places where users sought the most up-to-date PAI Coin information and other news from the cryptocurrency community.

The feedback from phase 1 were that

  • Users liked the simpleness and easiness of the wallet

  • But they wanted the app to have more diverse features besides managing the wallet

  • Users also wanted to get specific feedback for their transactions and important information

Based on the initial feedbacks from users, the concise dialog interfaces were designed to appear for every transaction and important notification. These designs were released during phase 2.

Next step

The initial version of the product was successfully launched and we kept making revisions on UI components and additional features.

For the next step, the team continued exploring corresponding services of the wallet and rethinking the design system more broadly. Our goal was to create an intuitive wallet system that helped users easily manage their crypto assets holistically.

Multi-wallet system and more

The goal was to allow users to manage all their digital assets in one wallet. How might we allow users to easily manage and focus on the value of all their cryptocurrencies in a simple and central interface?

I started exploring a few concepts for a wallet that supports multiple cryptocurrencies and conducted A/B tests on different designs. The purpose of testing was to understand user behaviors and usability towards multi-wallets and the overall interface and experience of the product. As a result of testing, we found that users wanted to focus on their crypto assets and transaction activity as soon as they open the app.
